Skin care in summer: the best tips for sunny days

The skin should always be well cared for to ensure it can reliably perform its many functions. In summer, however, special care is needed, as the skin is heavily stressed by sun exposure. Here, you will learn what to pay attention to when caring for your skin in summer. We will also introduce you to dline® products that can help you put these tips into practice effectively..

What is particularly important when it comes to skincare in summer?

In summer, the skin is particularly exposed to the sun’s UV radiation. This not only causes it to lose moisture, but also means it must be protected from the damaging effects of UV rays.

To ensure the skin receives enough moisture, skincare products that help regulate the skin’s hydration levels are essential. There are also products that provide a refreshing sensation, and ideally, your skincare should contain valuable nutrients as well.

To protect the skin from UV rays, the following measures are especially recommended:

  • Avoid strong sun exposure during midday hours
  • Wear clothing that covers the skin as much as possible
  • Use sunscreen

Sunscreen should have a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30, and for sensitive skin, SPF 50. The SPF indicates how long you can safely stay in the sun with protection. This is calculated based on the skin’s natural protection time. For fair skin types, this is around ten minutes, while for darker skin types it is longer.

With an SPF of 50, people with fair skin can spend up to five hours in the sun without concern (this does not mean a continuous five-hour sunbath).
With an SPF of 30, people with normal skin can also spend up to five hours in the sun without concern (again, not as a continuous sunbath).
People with darker skin can stay in the sun for up to twice as long when using the appropriate sunscreen. However, it is important to remember that swimming, towel-drying, and sweating can reduce the effectiveness of sunscreen.

What skin care products does dline® offer for summer?

In the dline® range, you will find various creams that provide your skin with essential moisture, keeping it optimally balanced—especially if you have dry skin.

BL®-BasicLotion helps prevent the skin from drying out thanks to its natural moisturizing factors. It can be used on normal to dry skin. One unique feature of BL® is that it can be applied to damp skin, creating a stronger cooling effect while requiring only one-third of the usual amount of BasicLotion.

LL®-LipoLotion also prevents moisture loss through its natural moisturizing factors and is ideal for dry skin. While important year-round, this is particularly valuable during hot summers. The body lotion contains aloe vera, panthenol, and glycerin—ingredients well known for their ability to provide and retain moisture.

It also contains retinyl palmitate, which protects against light-induced skin damage, and ascorbyl palmitate, which stimulates cell renewal and helps strengthen connective tissue. LL® LipoLotion absorbs into the skin within three to five minutes, leaving behind a protective, nourishing film. Once absorbed, you can dress as usual.

NCR®-NutrientCream not only regulates the skin’s moisture balance but also deeply nourishes it, making it ideal for very dry, flaky skin. It has a long-lasting replenishing effect while still absorbing well into the skin’s outer layer, delivering nutrients such as glycerin, beta-carotene, and panthenol.

The NOB®-NutrientOilBath is also highly moisturizing. You can add it to your bathwater, but it’s equally effective when used in the shower or during body washing. It leaves a protective oil film on the skin that both nourishes and shields it.

Its ingredients include peanut, jojoba, carrot, and almond oil, as well as vitamins A and E to further enrich the skin.

Products for cooling the skin

Especially on hot summer days, you may long for a refreshing sensation on your skin. Our CC® CoolingCream provides a gentle cooling effect and helps to reduce itching in sensitive, irritated, and flaky skin. It contains, among other ingredients, menthol, which is well known for its refreshing properties. For people with allergies, for facial application, or in case of other sensitivities, we also offer CC® Cooling Cream without menthol.

Key ingredients of the cream include aloe vera, jojoba oil, almond oil, magnesium sulfate, as well as vitamins C and E. For extremely dry skin, the cream can be mixed with white petroleum jelly. To do this, mix one part petroleum jelly with three to five parts of the cream.

Our FTG® Fresh Tonic Gel also delivers a refreshing effect. This cooling gel additionally has nourishing properties. It is best applied to the arms, legs, or body, but not to the face. It is particularly well suited for cooling overheated skin areas during sports. The gel can easily be massaged into sweaty skin, or you can first moisten the skin with cool water and then massage in a pea-sized amount of FTG® Gel onto the damp skin (this enhances the cooling effect and reduces product usage by at least half for the same surface area).

The refreshing effect of FTG® Fresh Tonic Gel comes from menthyl lactate and menthol. Its nourishing properties are due, among other things, to urea, panthenol, and glycerin.
