Frequently asked questions about dline® and skin care

You ask - we answer.

Questions about the ingredients

Can Vaseline or paraffin be present in skincare products?

Yes.
Generally, yes, because in terms of allergenicity, these substances are very good (hypoallergenic). However, applying them in high concentrations or pure form should be avoided at least in the medium and long term. Under clinical conditions, there are numerous applications where these two substances are controlled, precisely because of their hypoallergenic nature. In cosmetic products, smaller amounts in combination with natural oils can be used for normal to very dry skin without any issues. From the perspective of organic cosmetics, hydrocarbons like paraffins and Vaseline (a mixture of paraffins) are often portrayed negatively because they do not have an immediate plant or animal origin. The comedogenic effect can occur when overly fatty preparations are applied to already oily skin (not phase-appropriate). In many medical products, such as fatty gauze for wound treatment, Vaseline/paraffin has been successfully and hypoallergenically used for decades!"!

Are preservatives such as parabens or chlorhexidine present in dline® products?

No.
All dline® skincare products (creams, lotions, oil baths) are made without parabens or chlorhexidine to ensure very high product compatibility

Do fragrances generally cause allergies?

No,
not generally. In general, many fragrances do have an increased potential for allergies. However, dline® products only use fragrances that are identified as hypoallergenic based on the latest knowledge and allergological epicutaneous testing. They have been clinically tested and successfully applied in repeated application observations and case studies (1997-2013). Therefore, dline® products containing these well-tolerated perfume ingredients can be applied to dry and sensitive skin. For particularly sensitive individuals, any dline® product can be ordered without fragrance, at the same price

Does beeswax (Cera Alba) have an increased allergy potential?

No.
The Cera Alba (white beeswax) used in dline® products is highly purified beeswax and, therefore, hypoallergenic. In contrast, there is the 'pure natural product,' which still contains many 'impurities' and is unbleached. These impurities often lead to intolerance.

Does the ingredient Urea act as a direct descaling agent in the concentrations used?

No.
The concentration of the Urea ingredient plays a crucial role. Urea at a low dose (up to about 5%) is very well tolerated and can bind moisture in the stratum corneum (thereby facilitating secondary descaling). Continuous use does not cause problems but contributes to maintaining sufficient moisture in the stratum corneum. On the other hand, high concentrations of Urea, such as 10%-15% or more, have a direct descaling (keratolytic) effect on the skin. Therefore, the use of preparations with a high Urea content is indeed advisable in cases of hyperkeratosis or significant scaling. Caution: high Urea concentrations can cause a burning sensation in sensitive, irritated skin. Despite its low Urea content, NCR® NutrientCream has proven highly effective in cases of hyperkeratosis on the soles of the feet and hands. It provides a very safe and gentle application, potentially applied as a fatty cream bandage (increasing and expediting the effect by days).

Are dline® products free from lanolin (sheep wool fat)?

Yes
All dline® products are free from lanolin, as this ointment base can trigger allergic reactions on dry, inflamed skin (see AWMF guideline UCV from 2010). Synonyms for lanolin include: sheep wool fat, Adeps lanae, Adeps lanae PhEur, Adipis lanae, Alcoholes lanae; wool fat, Cera lanae, Adeps lanae anhydricus.

Questions about compatibility

Are dline® products well-tolerated?

Yes
The products are manufactured with strict consideration of internationally recognized allergological data to guarantee the best possible allergological compatibility. In various clinical and outpatient applications, allergological tests, and application observations, skin tolerance has achieved a maximum value of 97%. The subjective feeling after application is also highly rated. An objective clinical improvement, perceptible to the individual, is often noticeable within 4-7 days.

Are the products dermatologically tested and reviewed?

Yes.
Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) is crucial for the development of dline®. Current scientific knowledge, application experiences from affected individuals and experts, as well as documented studies, serve as the basis for recommendations and further product developments. The INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) and associated allergological databases are regularly and repeatedly reviewed by independent dermatologists/allergologists to quickly incorporate improvements into production. Various literature references, results of application observations, and publications can be requested at any time.

Does the use of multiple ingredients have allergic effects?

No,
not fundamentally. A modern and high-quality skincare regimen must be tailored to the skin type, phase-appropriate, pH-neutral on the skin, hydrating, emollient, and hypoallergenic. This is only possible through the combination of carefully matched, high-quality, and hypoallergenic ingredients.

Do the products provide good rehydration and lipid replenishment?

Yes
The high-quality ingredients, lipid content, and the formulation (W/O = Water in Oil) ensure excellent rehydration and lipid replenishment. Depending on the lipid content (e.g., 23% in HL®-HydroLotion up to 38% in NCR®-NutrientCream), the products can be used for normal, dry, and very dry, scaling skin. NCR®-NutrientCream and CC®-CoolingCream can be mixed with Vaseline if needed to increase the lipid content!

Are the products pH-neutral?

Yes.
All dline® products are pH-neutral (value below 7.0).

Questions regarding areas of application

Do dline® products work against itching?

Yes
The cause of itching should be known because skincare can alleviate or eliminate the symptom, especially in the case of dry skin. The product CC®-CoolingCream, in particular, significantly and sustainably reduces itching through the use of the low-dose ingredient menthol. For patients with allergic issues with menthol, CC® is also available without menthol at the same price!

Can dline® products be used on infants and/or toddlers?

Yes.
Due to their excellent tolerability, using dline® products on infants and toddlers is very feasible. These skincare products have been used since 1997, and there have been no complaints in this regard. However, the skin of infants and toddlers reacts differently and is very sensitive. Therefore, it is generally recommended to test the products on the inside of the upper arm for 2–3 days before applying them to larger areas (general advice for pre-testing before widespread use of skincare products).

Can one go into the sun after using dline® products?

Yes.
There are no contraindications for this.

Can ZCR® ZincCream be applied to superficial wounds?

No.
In principle, the product is designed for the skin and not for wounds. Application is possible and helpful for moist/irritated skin areas.

Are dline® products suitable for scar care?

Yes
In scar care, alongside the sometimes necessary compression, skincare is particularly important. Adequate moisturization and care of scars are crucial because scars lack sebaceous and sweat glands, leading to drying and increasing tension in the scar tissue. The skincare product must be well massaged in to make the scar elastic and soft. The combination of ZCR®-ZincCream and NCR®-NutrientCream in a 1:10 mixture is especially effective, or using NCR®-NutrientCream alone.

Are dline® products suitable for use in Diabetic Foot Syndrome (DFS)?

Yes.
Due to the disruption of autonomic nerve fibers, the skin in DFS tends to excessive scaling and irritation. Numerous application observations are available, indicating a significant improvement in skin conditions in DFS with the use of NCR®-NutrientCream (lipid content 38%) (central reference: 12 WZ®-WundZentren and WKZ®-WundKompetenzZentren in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland – since 2000).

Can dline® products be used as hand cream?

Yes.
BL®-BasicLotion or HL®-HydroLotion can be used very effectively for the hands. For dry and cracked skin on the hands, it is recommended to apply NCR®-NutrientCream overnight and wear cotton gloves to enhance the nurturing effect. Special note: BL®-BasicLotion and CC®-CoolingCream can be applied directly to slightly dry to normal skin on damp skin (enhanced cooling effect, reduces lotion/cream needs by approximately 60-80%). Apply the corresponding lotion to dry palms, spread it, and then massage it into the wet, damp skin in circular motions. This way, the lotion can be used optimally and economically after a full bath or shower.

Can dline® products be used in conjunction with compression therapy?

Yes.
In compression therapy, skincare is particularly important as the skin is constantly dehydrated (due to friction) by wearing compression stockings. Studies (e.g., Sigvaris®) show that dline® products BL®-BasicLotion and FTG®–FreshTonic-Gel are compatible with stockings made of synthetic and natural rubber. Furthermore, any other dline® product can also be applied, for example, with a cotton tube bandage (e.g., tg Lohmann, Tubinet, ...) under the compression stocking.

Is dline® suitable for diaper dermatitis?

Yes.
NCR®-NutrientCream provides excellent skincare and very good protection when using diaper inserts or diapers due to its low Vaseline/paraffin content. If the skin shows signs of maceration, NCR® can be combined with ZCR®-ZincCream. The rapid absorption of NCR® (a fine protective film remains on the skin) does not affect the function of diapers (absorption). For heavily irritated or macerated skin, ZCR®-ZincCream in combination with diapers is highly effective.

Can dline® products be applied to skin damaged by radiation therapy?

Yes.
Various dline® products were already tested in 2006 at the Kantonsspital Winterthur (B. Rutschmann / G. Kammerlander). Skincare was performed during the day after radiation therapy and finally in the evening. The products were very well tolerated. The selection was tailored to the skin type and dryness (BL®, ZCR®, CC®).

Can dline® products be used for psoriasis or eczema?

Yes.
NCR®-NutrientCream is particularly well-suited due to its high lipid content and high-quality ingredients. If there is increased itching, CC®-CoolingCream is preferable. For extremely dry skin, the products can be mixed with Vaseline if needed.

Can dline® products be used for sunburn?

Yes.
Depending on the skin type, various dline® products can be applied. If the skin feels very hot (Grade 1), the following can be recommended:

  1. Moisten irritated skin with cool water
  2. Spread BL®-BasicLotion or CC®-CoolingCream on dry palms, and gently apply it to the wet skin (glides easily over irritated skin, providing sustained cooling; forms only a very fine protective film. This is important to allow heat dissipation! If needed, 1%-5% FTG®-FreshTonicGel can be added to BL®-BasicLotion or CC®-CoolingCream (increases the cooling effect additionally, but should not be applied on the face).

Can psoriasis on the scalp be treated with dline® products?

Yes.
For psoriasis, BL®-BasicLotion can be massaged into the scalp (preferably with a cotton tube bandage over it overnight. Rinse in the morning 1–2 times with NAS®-NutrientAntiDandruffShampoo.) Both products are coordinated with each other. This helps improve symptoms and scaling in a gentle manner. The underlying cause of psoriasis cannot be treated at present.

Are dline® products only suitable for problematic skin?

No.
dline® products can be used for normal skin up to very severely scaly skin. Both BL®-BasicLotion and HL®-HydroLotion can be used as daily, high-quality skincare measures (anti-aging) indefinitely. The high-quality ingredients help the stratum corneum to retain more moisture, lipids, and valuable additives, relax the skin, and noticeably improve well-being.

Can dline® skincare products be used for excessive oil production?

No – when referring to lotions, creams, and oil baths. Seborrheic (oily) skin does not need additional fat – counterproductive.

Yes. Shampoo (NAS®, BS®) and FTG® can be used without any issues. PickelEx® Solution and Gel can explicitly be used on seborrheic (oily) skin.

Questions about the duration of use and application methods

Can dline® products be used permanently?

Yes.
There are no restrictions; the products can be applied as long and as often as necessary and desired.

Can the products be mixed for skincare/cleansing?

Yes.
All dline® skincare products (creams, lotions, oil baths, shampoo) can be combined with each other.

Do the products need to be shaken before use?

No,
not generally. For products such as shampoo or oil baths, this is recommended because additional emulsifiers and similar substances are omitted to enhance better compatibility. The recommendation to shake before use is specified on the labels of these products (back side).

Can dline® products be applied on wet skin?

Yes.
If the skin is left slightly moist after showering/washing or bathing, the products, especially BL®-BasicLotion and CC®-CoolingCream, can be massaged in more effectively. To massage onto wet skin, apply the products to dry palms first – distribute there and then gently spread over the moistened skin. Positive side effect: You need about 2/3 less product for the same skin area.

Should skincare only be done in the morning?

No.
The frequency of application depends on the skin condition. Depending on the dryness of the skin, care should be provided once to several times a day. After showering, skincare should be performed in general, as excessive (especially too warm) water and skin cleansing agents can lead to increased dehydration (defatting) of the skin.

Can NCR®-NutrientCream and CC®-CoolingCream be mixed with Vaseline?

Yes.
If the lipid content (richness in fat) is insufficient for extremely dry skin with NCR®-NutrientCream, white Vaseline (Vaselinum album) can be added (ratio: 10–30% white Vaseline combined with 70%–90% NCR®). The preparations are designed to allow for trouble-free mixing.

Other questions

Is dline® produced in Switzerland?

Yes.
Since 1997 at Lake Zurich. Originally in Samstagern and since 2008 in Wädenswil.

Can the use of skincare products cause discoloration on textiles?

No,
only in exceptional cases. With the very generous application of NCR®-NutrientCream, slight yellowish discolorations were observed in a few individual cases on bed sheets. However, all residues can be easily removed with wash cycles at temperatures of at least 60°C. The skincare specialties PickelEx® can lighten colors on textiles due to active oxygen. In case of accidental contact with clothing, simply rinse immediately with plenty of water.

Can dline® products be stored at room temperature?

Yes.
The high-quality formulations remain stable at room temperatures between 10°C and 40°C. However, if the products, for example, are exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period behind window glass, this can lead to temperatures beyond 80°C and, like with all common skincare products, may result in instability (phase separation).

Are animal tests conducted with or for dline®?

No.
dline® exclusively uses certified raw materials and tested substances with corresponding certificates. Therefore, no animal tests are necessary.

How long is the shelf life of the products?

dline® products are valid for 2 ½ years. The expiration date is visible on the tubes/bottles. With correct, hygienic use, the products remain usable after opening until the specified date. We recommend using them within 6 months after opening.

Are the products economical to use?

Yes.
dline® skincare products are highly concentrated. Therefore, only small amounts should be used per application. Due to the lipid base, the massage may subjectively feel a bit "greasy." However, with the correct amount, the products quickly penetrate the stratum corneum, leaving a pleasant care (protective) film that typically lasts for hours. Dressing is easily possible after about 3-5 minutes if you use the products phase-appropriately!
